Jamie Anderson won the gold for USA in women’s snowboard slopestyle and completed the sweep of the gold medals for the American’s in the new Olympic event on Sunday.
According to USA Today, Anderson came into the event as the favorite to win the gold, unlike her male counterpart Sage Kotsenburg, who won the men’s final on Saturday. She has now placed either first or second in 20 of the 24 events she competed in.
"I'm so happy," she shouted as she hugged her coach. "It was fricken' mind blowing. What a day."
ESPN notes that Enni Rukajarvi of Finland took the silver medal and Jenny Jones of Great Britain took the bronze, winning Britain's first medal in any snow sport event.
Anderson, a Lake Tahoe, Calif. native, delivered on her final run after a first not-so-great run.
"I was really just trying to stay calm and kind of reserve my energy," she said. "It was a lot of stress up there and even though it's just another competition, the stage and the outreach that this event connects to is out of control."
The 23-year-old won on the same Rosa Khutor Extreme Park course that posed difficulties to her on Wednesday and fellow American Shaun White on Thursday, before he withdrew from the men’s event.
