The episode begins innocently enough - a woman is trying to make her way into Starling City until her passport kicks off an “A.R.G.U.S. Security Alert” alarm. Though the officers try to take her down, she quickly proves more than capable of handling herself as she manages to subdue each one of them before calmly walking through customs and into an unassuming Starling.
Meanwhile, Moira’s campaign seems to be kicking off. While the Queen family discusses particulars, Felicity pulls Walter aside to discuss Tempest, the account he originally had Felicity look into last season. She shares that she’d set up an alert to notify her if any transactions were made and that there was - to a Dr. Gill. Walter says he’ll talk to Moira about it but Felicity knows he’s lying to her.
However, Oliver gets a call from Detective Lance that cuts the scene short - Laurel’s in the hospital. Though Laurel maintains that she didn’t overdose last night, the doctors are insistent on still checking her out. Oliver comes a little closer under the guise of a hug and we see her eyes glow with something. As he leaves, Laurel pulls her father aside and admits that she saw Sara, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Oliver heads straight for the basement of Verdant - which Sara has beat him to. This time, it’s she who is training viciously as Felicity and Diggle watch. Oliver pleads for her to stay, knowing she’s on her way out. When she disagrees, he admits that her “entire family needs you - and so do I.” Though she’s hesitant, their conversation is interrupted by a phone call from Det. Lance. They meet up at a little cafe in a quiet area of town but Sara gets mad when he tries to get her to stay as well. Just as she makes her hasty exit, a drape falls and down tumbles the woman from the airport. But, instead of threatening Sara, she removes her mask and they share a kiss with Oliver watching in the shadows.
The woman is revealed to be Nyssa al Gul, the daughter of notorious leader of the League of Assassins, Ra’s al Gul. When confronted by Oliver, she admits that she’s come to Starling for Sara. When Sara asks for a minute, Oliver says that she doesn’t need to explain but she can’t leave with her because he doesn’t trust her. Sara shrugs off his concern, asking him to trust herself instead.
In a series of flashbacks not set on the island, we see the Lance family before the Gambit went down. Laurel’s just applied to law school and Sara’s back from college, visiting for the three-day weekend. As she slips away from her family, we see a text from Oliver, asking her if she’s in town yet.
In the meantime, Felicity goes to Moira, knowing Walter won’t talk to her. She admits that she started looking into it because she doesn’t trust her. After finding the recipient of the large donation, she figures out the secret Moira and Walter are so desperately trying to hide: Thea is Malcolm Merlyn’s daughter. When Felicity tells Moira that Oliver needs to know, Moira threatens Felicity with the one thing that matters to her the most: Oliver’s feelings for her.
Back at the lair, Oliver is frustrated by Sara’s lack of contact and confused by Felicity’s wandering mind. Before he can press her on it, though, Sara and Diggle come downstairs with bad news; Diggle has found that Laurel’s blood tested positive for snake venom. The woman was used as a trap to bring Sara back to Starling.
In another flashback, we see a younger Sara and Laurel hanging out on their couch. Laurel questions Sara about who she’s been texting for the past couple days. Sara evades the question by Asking Laurel about her relationship with Oliver. Though Laurel’s excited she and Oliver have agreed to start looking into places to move in together, Sara asks if she’s sure Oliver’s really ready for that. Laurel gets defensive and the two fight. Sara stalks off, pausing to text Oliver a quick “See you at the docks.”
Patiently sitting by Laurel’s bedside, Ms. Lance goes to get some water as she’s abducted. Against Sara and Oliver’s best attempts, Nyssa gets away from her. They call Det. Lance and Sara admits that Nyssa is trying to get Sara to come back not just to the League, but to her. With little chance to process this, Quentin leaves to check on Laurel while Sara and Oliver go back to the basement to check on the source of the venom.
As they get a quick lead, they head back out to talk with Det. Lance. They’re interrupted by another member of the league - before they can question him, he kills himself.
The next day, the Queen family and Felicity are at Moira’s campaign announcement. Oliver notes the tension between Moira and Felicity and questions the younger woman. Felicity tries to brush him off but apparently relents. As Oliver comes up to the stage to introduce his mother, he’s visibly rattled. Moira looks devastated and sends a quick glance to a frightened Felicity. Though he quickly recovers, he gives her a simple, “I know,” as he hugs her and makes his way offstage.
Meanwhile, Sara receives the call from Nyssa. She tells her she’s going to go back to her in exchange for her mother’s release. Shortly after, she calls her father and together, they get her mother. Though Dinah is happy to see her daughter alive, Sara makes Det. Lance take her away before she collapses.
Back at the lair, Oliver and team realize that Sara has taken the venom and plans to kill either Nyssa or herself, moving them into action. Grabbing his bag of island herbs, he makes it to the warehouse just in time to save the Lances. Though Nyssa fights back to the best of her ability, Oliver manages to get her down, stopping only because of Sara’s pleas before she finally collapses. He manages to just barely save her. As a heartbroken Nyssa witnesses the scene, she releases Sara from the League. Laurel watches as everything she knew to be her reality comes crashing down around her.
At the Queen mansion, Moira pauses her campaign coverage when Oliver comes to see her. Though she tries to talk to him, Oliver cuts her off and tells her that they’re done. “Thea can never find out about Merlyn and she can never know the truth about us which is that as of right now, we have no relationship. I will keep up appearances for Thea’s sake and publicly I will support your campaign but privately, you and I, we’re done.” Moira watches as her son walks away.
However, the Lances have their happy reunion cut off by an upset Laurel. Coldly, Laurel explains that everything that has gone wrong in her life is because of Sara’s reckless decisions before kicking her out of the apartment. Sara tries to explain but leaves instead as Laurel throws a glass at her.
In the final flashback, we see Moira come to the Lance household. Though Laurel begs for Moira to tell her Oliver’s okay, Moira tells her that one of the members of the dock’s crew saw Oliver sneaking Sara on board. Laurel’s world falls apart again.
In the present day, Slade watches as Moira’s campaign covers the news. He tells Blood to not do anything because he’ll “take care of it.”
Back at the lair, Oliver is training viciously when Sara comes down. Both a little bit broken, they both admit they don’t know what’s going to happen now that their respective worlds have been rocked. The episode ends with things getting steamy between the two.
