The Atlanta Braves are playing to honor the 40th anniversary of when Hank Aaron hit his then-record setting 715 home run during a pre game ceremony before the Braves home opener of the 2014 season against the New York Mets on April 8th.

It was also announced this past Tuesday that the Braves players would be wearing a special commemorative patch on the right sleeve of their jerseys during the season reports The Associated Press. The patch will carry the number 715 along with Hank Aaron’s autograph and a “40th Anniversary” banner, while the patch itself will be in the shape of home plate.

The president of the Atlanta Braves John Schuerholz made the comments about how enormous of a milestone this was for him, for the Braves and for Major League Baseball and it is well deserving of a season-long celebration according to MLB.com.

Hank Aaron broke the record at the time which was held by Babe Ruth on April 8, 1974 at old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Aaron finished his career with 755 home runs, which was the record until it was broken by Barry Bonds, who now holds the record with 762 home runs.

It will be a special day in Atlanta when a Braves legend is honored for his great contribution to the Atlanta Braves and Major League Baseball.
