Auburn football signee, Kalvaraz Bessent, was arrested on multiple felony marijuana drug charges. Friday in Nassau County, Florida, Bessent was the passenger in a car stopped for speeding when Florida sheriffs smelled marijuana.
According to USA TODAY, Nassau County Sheriff, Bill Leeper, said, "Upon approaching the vehicle and talking to the driver (Elbert Thornton, of Jacksonville) deputy smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.”
The officer then searched the vehicle finding 202.5 grams of marijuana underneath the front seats. The cornerback from St. Mary’s, Georgia was one of four men arrested that night. All men were arrested with the same charges.
According to AL.com, Bessent was arrested on two felony charges for possession of marijuana over 20 grams and possession with intent to sell. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
Bessent was released Saturday on bond, and reports back to court on February 27. According to Florida state law, if convicted on all three charges he could face up to eleven years in prison.
