After years of staying out of the baseball spotlight, Barry Bonds will return to baseball for the first time since his final season in 2007.
According to CBS Sports, Bonds will join his old team, the San Francisco Giants, as a special instructor. Bonds will work with the Giants' hitters.
Mercury News reports that Bonds will report to the Giants in March.
Bonds became notorious for his use of performance-enhancing drugs, and he was eventually convicted for perjury and obstruction of justice. He has also been well-known for his record-breaking numbers, including 762 career home runs and 73 home runs in the 2001 season.
He also holds the record for most walks and intentional walks. Bonds also made 14 National League All-Star Game trips.
Despite winning seven National League MVP awards and having Hall of Fame-worthy numbers, he has been unable to get in due to his tainted career.
Although Bonds has endured controversy throughout his career, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he doesn't have any concerns about hiring Bonds.
