Actor Ben McKenzie has been cast to star as James Gordon in Fox's upcoming series Gotham.
McKenzie will play Gordon before he became the police commissioner that most are familiar, reports the Los Angeles Times.

According to Deadline, the pilot was written by Bruce Heller and Danny Cannon is serving as both the director for the pilot as well as the executive producer.
McKenzie has previously been on Fox, where he starred on The O.C.. The actor has actually also provided his voice as Batman before, in the animated film Batman: Year One. He was most recently on the cop show Southland.
