Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch squares off against a Muppet during a guest spot on long running children’s show, Sesame Street .
The sketch opens with a surprising spoiler directly from the end scene of the last episode of Sherlock , as Muppet Murray enters saying “did you miss me” repeatedly. This is a direct parallel to the surprising return of Sherlock’s arch nemesis, Moriarty, in the Season 3 cliffhanger.
Appropriate, as Murray proceeds to introduce himself as “Murray-arty.” Playing the role of nemesis, Murray challenges Cumberbatch to solve his perplexing puzzle. While counting fruit should seem a tedious task for Sherlock, he calls upon the help of the Count. Together, they are able to solve Murray-arty’s brain-busting challenge.
Cumberbatch is just the latest of leading men to appear on the show, reports the Los Angeles Times. Other such recent stars include Tom Hiddleston and Henry Cavill.
Tom Hiddleston, who portrays Loki in the popular Thor movies, had a spot a few months ago in which he taught Cookie Monster delayed gratification. Hiddleston defends his cookie from the impulsive monster, later saying “Didn’t is taste better after waiting”, to which Cookie Monster agrees.
Last but not least, Henry Cavill, “Man of Steel”, teams up with Elmo to teach the wolf a little respect towards the three little pigs.
While Sherlock has just ended its third season, Cumberbatch will still be prominent in the public eye. According to NY Daily News, Cumberbatch will be appearing in both The Imitation Game and The Hobbit: There and Back Again (the final installment of The Hobbit triology) all to be released this year.
