The unranked Boston College Eagles held a 6-19 record heading into their game against the top-ranked Syracuse Orange. This meant nothing to them though as they pulled the biggest upset of the 2013-14 college basketball season.
According to USA Today, the Eagles stunned the Orange 62-59 in overtime. They hadn't won a game since Jan. 29, and they only beat Virginia Tech in conference play. Virginia Tech is only 2-11 in ACC games.
Mercury News reports that sophomore guard Olivier Hanlan led the Eagles with 20 points, and he tied the game in regulation with a layup to send the game into overtime.
Junior guard Lonnie Jackson sealed the upset for the Eagles when he made four consecutive free throws in the last 26 seconds of the game.
The Orange struggled with their shooting, as they were held to 32.2 percent from the field. They will look to recover from this upset as they receive a golden opportunity to stay atop the rankings. They will face No. 5 Duke on the road Saturday.
