Kanye West turned to Less Than Zero author Bret Easton Ellis to write a screenplay for the rapper, who admits he eventually relented and did.
In an interview with Vice, Ellis mentions the screenplay request. He didn't go into too many details as it's in "Kanye Land," but he did note that he was hesitant when first approached.
"He came and asked me to write the film. I didn't want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus." After listening to the album for a bit, Ellis thought, "regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this."
According to SPIN, the collaboration between the author and West for a screenplay isn't too surprising since they worked together for a trailer for Yeezus that was a takeoff of Ellis' American Psycho.
The unlikely pair also were involved in the music for the Lindsay Lohan film The Canyons and West made an appearance on Ellis' first podcast.
Little else is know about this movie project of West's other than Ellis wrote the screenplay and the film was shot quickly after Ellis was done writing, according to MTV News, which talked with Ellis in the summer of last year. "I wrote it very quickly and they shot it two or three days later."
