The Brooklyn Nets and the Sacramento Kings have reached a deal that will send guard Marcus Thornton to the Nets and guard Jason Terry and forward Reggie Evans to the Kings.
Thornton was traded to the Kings by New Orleans in the middle of the 2010-2011 season. He played 23 games with the Kings that season and averaged 21.3 points. This season he is averaging 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and one assist while shooting 38 percent from the floor, and 31 percent from three-point range. Terry, who has played in 35 games after a knee injury, is averaging 4.5 points and has a shooting percentage of 36. Evans had 56 starts last season and led the Nets with 11.1 rebounds per game. He lost his starting spot when the Nets acquired Kevin Garnett.
The Kings are still trying to improve their team. The acquisition of Thornton was the third move that the Kings have made this season, according to the Associated Press. On November 26 the Kings sent Luc Mbah a Moute to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Derrick Williams. On December 9 they acquired Rudy Gay in a seven player deal with the Toronto Raptors.
Before the start of the 2011-12 season, the Kings signed Thornton to a four-year contract that’s worth about $31 million. He has two years left on his contract and has $17 million left in his deal. Terry has $10.7 million left on his deal, including $5.4 million for next season. The Nets are also looking to get Jordan Hill from the Los Angeles Lakers by using their Disabled Player Exception, according to Yahoo Sports. The Nets $5.25 million Disabled Player Exception can be used in a trade or free-agent transaction until March 10.
Hill has seven rebounds and an average of 8.5 points with the Lakers.
