Bubba Watson won the Northern Trust Open by two shots Sunday afternoon at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. It had been two years and forty one tournaments since Watson’s last PGA win. But, that win two years ago just happened to be the 2012 Masters.
Watson played great both Saturday and Sunday. He made critical puts and managed to stay bogey-free both rounds. Although he started the final round behind William McGirt by four strokes he caught up quickly. A birdie on the eighth hole carried him out of a four-way tie for the lead.
Watson finished the tournament with a 64, two strokes better than Dustin Johnson who was a runner-up for the second week in a row. According associatedpress Johnson took second place when he finished one shot behind Jimmy Walker last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
According to golfchannel Watson’s fifth career victory should move him inside the top 15 in the world rankings.
