The fight for the last spot in the finals between Canada and USA began on Friday, ending with a 1-0 shutout in Canada's favor.

The first period brought a big push filled with great opportunities and fast skating for both sides. In the first minute and a half, Phil Kessel put the pressure on and went straight for Canada's goal at full speed.

Although it was a failed attempt, both teams started more than ready to play and more importantly—win.

The first period remained scorless. With the second period underway and 1:41 passed, Canada gained a 1-0 lead off of Jamie Benn’s score.

This was the only goal of the entire game, as reported in The New York Times

Team USA’s defense started to loosen in the second period as they endured a failed power play and trailed in goals. Canada and USA demonstrated great back and forth, non-stop action. After 40 minutes of the game played and at the end of the second period, USA seemed to slowly unravel.

Price and Quick both played an extremely solid game in goal but their efforts are separated by the one goal that made it in the USA net.

The third period brought more back and forth play and numerous chances for scoring. The last few minutes of the game were anxiety ridden, but team USA came up short.

Canada outshot their rivals 37-31, according to The National Post

Tomorrow Finland and USA will compete for the bronze while Canada will face off against Sweden for the gold on Sunday at 7 a.m.
