Carmelo Anthony has made it clear: He will take a pay cut if the New York Knicks attract top-tier talent that will help theme compete for a championship in the future.
According to the NY Daily News, reporters caught up with Anthony in New Orleans at the NBA All-Star Weekend.
“Any opportunity I have to build that up in New York, I’d do it. I told people all the time, always say, if it takes me taking a pay cut, I’ll be the first one on Mr. Dolan’s steps saying, ‘Take my money and let’s build something strong over here.’”
Anthony is poised to opt out of the final year of his contract and test the free agency market this summer, according to ESPN.
Some of the big names that will also hit the free-agent market are Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge and Rajon Rondo.
The Knicks will have much more salary cap space at the end of the 2015 season when the contracts of Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Andrea Bargnani expire.
There has been speculation that Anthony would take a pay-cut to join Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls in 2015.
