CBC's coverage of the Sochi Games enjoyed a ratings boost after both the men and women's teams took home gold medals in hockey.

Friday's broadcast of the Canada vs. USA men's ice hockey semifinal game was watched by more people in Canada than on any other day of the Olympics coverage so far, The Hollywood Reporter added.

Over 15 million Canadians, which equals about half of the country's population watched the semifinal game. The ratings continued to be high going into the hockey gold medal game that took place on Sunday morning against Sweden.

In total for the ninth day the CBC ratings reported that over 23.5 million people tuned into the Olympics, making it the most watched day for the Winter Olympics so far, The Star added.

The women's team did just as well and had over 13 million Canadians tune in last Thursday to watch them take home the gold medal, that was in addition to the 3.1 million fans that tuned into the live stream.
