CBS has won the rights to air Thursday night NFL football games for the upcoming season.
According to NFL.com, the league has partnered with the broadcast company and will produce 16 games under the “Thursday Night Football” banner, eight of which air on CBS.
The eight CBS games will be simulcast on the league’s flagship network. Fourteen games in all will be played on Thursday night next season and the NFL Network will pick up the remaining six games.
The new partnership was announced on Wednesday.
CBS New York has reported that while Phil Simms and Jim Nantz will call the games, analysts from both stations will be shown during pregame, postgame and halftime shows.
Football is already the number one sport in the country and now with regular season games set to air in primetime, on a major network, the brand will continue to grow considerably, which is exactly what the league is hoping for.
