The 2014 DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl kicked off today to begin our Super Bowl weekend in New York City.
The match-up comprised of two teams: the Finest and the Bravest. This year, the flag football game was able to snag an assortment of celebrities – from models and actresses to professional athletes. In the end, the Finest was the celebrity team that came out on top. John Legend, one of the MVP’s for the team, was able to present two checks for 20,000 dollars each, one belonging to the New York Police Department and the other for the Fire Department of New York.
Christine Teigen and Hannah Davis were two of the models that took part in this year’s Beach Bowl, both coming from Sports Illustrated. Although, we didn’t see Chrissy get too much playing time. She told E! News, “I rarely touch the ball and mostly make sand angels but I try to make sure everyone has a great time. Now that John is playing, I plan on making touch football ‘extremely touchy football.’” Additionally, we saw Shay Mitchell from ABC’s Pretty Little Liars, who took her spot on the winning team.
According to DIRECTV, the rest of the Beach Bowl lineup included Tracy Morgan (Comedian/Actor), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Guy Fieri (Food Network), Joe Montana and Deion Sanders (NFL Hall of Famers), LaDainian Tomlinson (New York Jets), and Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons). The fundraising game also included a performance by Paramore.
This is DIRECTV's 8th year organizing the Beach Bowl, and it was evident that everyone who partook enjoyed the friendly competition. I would say it was another very successful year.
