Singer Bobby Brown, former baseball player Henry Hank Aaron, and singer Sara Evans celebrate their birthdays today.
The singer Bobby Brown turns 45 today. Originally from Massachusetts, the performer specialized in singing, songwriting, dancing, rapping and acting throughout his stardom. Successful with a group act and a solo career, Brown has remained in the spotlight since 1983.
The infamous musical group New Edition formed n 1978. The group did local talent shows and eventually got on with Maurice Starr’s label and soon started their success story. Their first album was titled Candy Girl which became popular. The group received much more popularity with their next album featuring songs “Mr. Telephone Man” and “Cool It Now.”
Starting his solo career, he signed with MCA Records and released his debut album in 1986, King of Stage. His next album two years later including five Billboard Hot 100 singles including “My Prerogative.” Brown’s album Bobby was received well my fans in 1992. During his career he worked with stars like Macy Gray, Damian Marley and Ja Rule.
New Edition reunited several times starting in 1990, with Brown as an active member. He also did work in film with titles like Ghost Busters II, Krush Groove, and Two Can Play That Game just to name a few.
The former baseball player Henry Hank Aaron turns 80 today. The former professional baseball player is originally from Alabama. Aaron turned down a football scholarship to play baseball instead. Aaron played in the Negro American League, minor league baseball and Major League Baseball in his career.
Aaron started his career in 1951, when a scout spotted him for the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro American League. The next year he signed with the Braves and in 1953 his team won the league championship and he personally won the Most Valuable Player award that year as well. In 1975, he broke Babe Ruth’s record for runs batted in with 2,213.
As a baseball player, Aaron set records: most seasons as an All-Star, most All-Star game selections, most career runs batted, extra base hits and total bases –all in the MLB. Aaron received the Spingarn Medal from the NAACP in 1976, inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, inducted Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988, received news in 1999 that the Major League Baseball was introducing a Hank Aaron award and received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Bill Clinton in 2001. These are just a few ways people have celebrated his accomplishments during his career.
Country singer Sara Evans turns 43 today. Originally from Missouri, the singer-songwriter started in musical career in 1992. She signed with RCA Nashville and released her album Three Chords and the Truth in 1997, which was well received because of her unique county vibe. The song “Born to Fly” was a No. 1 hit on the Hot Country Songs in 2000. Evans has an many hit songs like “Suds in the Bucket”, “Perfect”, “A Real Fine Place to Start” and “You’ll Always Be My Baby” to name a few. Evans appeared on the show Nashville Star, HGTV Designer Star and Dancing with the Stars.
She has continued to release albums since 2008 and in 2013 her single “Slow Me Down” came out and the awaited album Slow Me Down is expected to release in March of this year.
Evans has received many awards: Country Music Association Awards video of the year for “Born to Fly” in 2001, BMI Country Awards for 50 Most Performed Country Songs Award for “Perfect” in 2004 and “You’ll Always Be My Baby” in 2007, R&R Female Vocalist of the Years in 2006 and the Dove Awards Special Event Album for Glory Revealed II: The Word of God In Worship in 2010.
