This week actor Chris Evans of Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier was named this year’s Grand Marshal for the 56th Daytona 500 next Sunday, giving him the honorable duty of reciting the most emphatic phrases in NASCAR, “Driver’s, start your engines.”
According to ComicBookMovie.com, Evans will also participate in ceremonies before the race, be addressed at the driver’s meeting, and ride in the Grand Marshal’s car. Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood is proud to have Evans usher in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for fans, a proper responsibility for ‘Captain America’ to accomplish.
"What better way to kick-off 'The Great American Race' than with Captain America, Chris Evans, giving the command to start engines," stated Chitwood.
The Hollywood Reporter highlighted other actors who have taken on the role of Grand Marshal, including Matthew McConaughey, Nicholas Cage, and James Franco. Franco even added a personal touch to his drivers’ command when he specified driver Danica Patrick, saying "Drivers, and Danica, start your engines."
Captain America: The Winter Solider follows up with Steve Rogers (Evans) after the events of Marvel’s The Avengers, and is the second movie in the Captain America franchise set for an April 4th release.
