Singer Clay Aiken is taking a foray into politics. The singer has decided to officially run for Congress.
Aiken told the Associated Press, "I am comfortable with myself. I am comfortable with the campaign we're running. I am positive that people are going to vote for the person who they think will do the best job, who they think can win in November."
The former star of American Idol turned in his paperwork at the State Board of Elections to seek the seat held by Renee Ellmers. Aiken is seeking nomination in North Carolina’s second district, according to Time. The 35 year old singer says that politics are of great interest to him. He quickly said what we would like to do to serve his constituents in North Carolina. Aiken says that lowering unemployment and aiding veterans are his top priorities.
The celebrity took to You Tube to announce his campaign on Feb. 5. The web video received several hundred hits. Television fans know Aiken as the singer who finished second to Ruben Studdard in the 2003 American Idol competition.
