The Cleveland Browns have announced another major move Wednesday, marking the first major move Ray Farmer has made as the general manager of the team.
The team announced that they have released middle linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, cleveland.com reports.
This move comes just two weeks before he was due a roster bonus of $4.1 million that was due March 15 and one year after the team signed him to a five-year contract that would have kept him in Cleveland through the 2016 season, according to cleveland.com.
Jackson has been a solid player and a team captain for the Browns for many years. He was one the team's leading tacklers on defense and was the defense's signal caller. 2013 was one of the best seasons in his career. He had a total of 141 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception and 1.5 sacks in 2013, according to SB Nation.
The Browns drafted Jackson in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Maryland, according to cleveland.com.
Jackson was one of the more popular players with the Browns and was loved by Browns fans, his coaches and teammates in Cleveland. The team that decides to sign Jackson will be getting a good player, teammate and leader.
