The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Thursday that the team has fired general manager Chris Grant amidst a 16-33 season.

Grant's recent moves for the team have not done anything to help the Cavaliers improve upon their recent miserable seasons, reports ESPN. His drafting of Anthony Bennett with the top pick and signing Andrew Bynum are so far not being thought of as wise moves, with Bynum already gone.

Grant did take some of the blame, recently saying, "We're all accountable for it, including myself." He added, "It's frustrating. It's disappointing to our fans. The fans deserve better."

The straw that seemed to break the camel's back and finally cause team owner Dan Gilbert to make a move was Wednesday night's loss to the extremely short-handed Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers were so short-handed a player remained in the game despite having six fouls because there was literally no one else available.

According to CBS Sports, Gilbert said in a statement released by the Cavs, "This has been a very difficult period for the franchise. We have severely underperformed against expectations."

Grant has been with the Cavaliers since 2010 after previous GM Danny Ferry was unable to keep LeBron James with the team. ESPN notes that assistant GM David Griffin will be the interim general manager.
