CNN has confirmed that Piers Morgan Live will be cancelled after a three-year long run.
Piers had replaced Larry King in the 9 p.m. spot on CNN. The show had recently been earning low ratings and may end as early as next month.
“CNN confirms that Piers Morgan Live is ending,” head of CNN communications, Allison Gollust said, reports USA Today. “The date of the final program is still to be determined.”
CNN hired ABC News Nightline anchor Bill Weir back in November and it was originally rumored that he would be Morgan’s replacement. However, a source has told The Hollywood Reporter that Weir will not be replacing him.
In an interview with The NY Times, Morgan spoke about his show coming to an end.
“It’s been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings,” Morgan said. “Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.”
Since the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in 2012, Morgan had been using the show as a platform to talk about gun control.
