Matt Ryan, a Welsh actor who appeared in the short-lived Criminal Minds spin-off Suspect Behavior, has been cast in the lead role for Constantine. The NBC pilot is based on the supernatural DC Comics character.
NBC got the project in September and it will be written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) and Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist).
Deadline reported on Friday that Ryan got the title role, a con man who becomes a supernatural detective tasked with saving the world from evil forces. The character will be based in London and his first mission is to save the daughter of his late friend, since demons are after her.
This could be the break-out role for Ryan. His credits since Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior include a small role in Vikings and providing voices for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. He also appeared in The Tudors and Collision.
DC Comics and Warner Bros. TV are also developing The Flash for The CW and the Batman prequel series Gotham at Fox.
