Debra Messing is sticking with NBC. The former Will and Grace actress has signed on to star in a new drama pilot called The Mysteries of Laura.
Messing has been cast as Detective Laura Diamond, who has to raise her twin children while investigating homicides. According to Variety, it is based on the Spanish series Los Misterios De Laura and will be written by Jeff Rake. Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Aaron Kaplan are executive producing with Rake and Melissa Kellner Berman.
Berlanti Prods. and Kapital Entertainment are producing with Warner Bros. TV.
Messing has strong ties to NBC. In addition to Will & Grace, she has appeared on LAw & Order: SVU and starred on the network’s short-lived Broadway drama Smash.
Speaking of Broadway, Messing recently made her Broadway debut with Outside Mullingar. Broadway World notes that the Manhattan Theatre Club is staging the production at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre for only 11 weeks. The play was written by John Patrick Shanley and also features Brían F. O'Byrne, Peter Maloney and Dearbhla Molloy.
