Drumline was released back in 2002 and the college drum line film is now getting a sequel on the VH1 network. The sequel will be called Drumline: A New Beat and will star Nick Cannon, who also stared in the original film.
Lensing will start this spring and a fall 2014 debut is in mind for the upcoming project, Variety reported.
Cannon recently spoke about the impact that Drumline still has on his career even today. “Even though ['Drumline'] was released over a decade ago, I am constantly approached by people on the street who tell me how much of an impact it made on them. As a producer, my thought was, ‘How do we create an updated version that would translate to today’s audience and still feel fresh and original?"
The new concept will feature a strong female lead in the upcoming Drumline: A New Beat. The sequel will be taking place at a fictional New Orleans university and will focus on a variety of characters, Deadline reported.
No release date has yet to be announced for Drumline: A New Beat.
