The New York Rangers missed an overtime opportunity when the Oilers scored with just over one minute left in the game.
The Rangers, who were on a winning streak of four games, went into the game tonight with confidence—but apparently that wasn’t enough.
The Rangers’ 6,000th regular season game started on a negative note. At just 2:56, Ryan Smyth snapped a rebound behind Cam Talbot. At the end of the first period the Rangers trailed 1-0, but were ahead in shots by 11-8, according to cbssports.com
Just 22 short seconds into the second period, Derick Brassard answered back with his 11th goal. Brassard sent the puck past Scrivens, which tied the game.
It appeared that Edmonton took a 2-1 lead, but after review, Gagner’s goal was scored after the whistle blew.
Thursday night’s game remained tied throughout the entire second period and most of the third.
It seemed the game against the Edmonton Oilers would go into overtime but with just 1:36 left in the third period, Nail Yakupov scored. Talbot, who had 29 saves, just couldn’t keep the last shot out of goal, according to nydailynews.com
It was a disappointing loss and end to the Rangers winning streak for all blueshirts fans.
The Rangers will face Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on the road, Friday, February 7.
