Broadway legend Elaine Stritch is known for saying whatever comes to her mind and unfortunately, the f-bomb popped into the 89-year-old’s mind during an appearance on the Today Show this morning. It made Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford uncomfortable, but Stritch didn’t seem to care.
Stritch was on the last hour of Today to promote a documentary about her long career, Shoot Me. During the interview, Gifford told her about how she is “beloved” for speaking her mind. “You say whatever you want to say,” Gifford said, notes The New York Daily News.
"If you just say things naturally, it's fine," Stritch replied, before explaining how television really limits you on saying everything. “They just think in f--k.”
Gifford and Kotb looked completely surprised. “Oh dear!” Gifford said and Kotb just couldn’t contain her laughter.
Stritch didn’t think it was funny though. “I meant a serious point by that!” she told the hosts.
Stritch is a three-time Emmy winner, most recently taking home an award for playing Jack Donaghy's mother on 30 Rock. However, she’s also known for her Tony nominated performances on Broadway. She won a Tony in 2002 for the special theatrical event Elaine Stritch at Liberty.
