BBC's hit, Sherlock, which is an modern retelling of the classic spy novels, has reached unheard of ratings across the globe and has become one of the most watch shows this year. Fans will have to wait a while for a new season of the show, possibly until 2016.
Co-Creator and show runner Steven Moffat said in a recent interview that the show might not be returning until 2016. "If people have to wait two years, they’ll have to wait two year," said Moffat.
Moffat went on to explain that production on the show is more like working on a movie compared to a television show and that takes time. We'll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality – that’s the thing. It’s not the kind of show that turns up all the time, it's just not. But the good news is, that probably means it will turn up sporadically for a very, very long while," Moffat explained.
Due to the success of the drama, Cumberbatch and Freeman are in very high demand and their acting schedules will depend on when the show can be filmed, The Independent reported.
The actors are not the only part of the show that is in high demand, Moffat has been pulling double duty for BBC also working on the sci-fi drama, Doctor Who.
Rumors have been forming that BBC is hoping to air a Sherlock christmas special, similar to what the network does for Doctor Who fans, so that is something that Sherlock fans can look forward to while they are waiting for new episodes, In Entertainment reported.
