The new series based on the DC Comics series, Batman, has begun casting. The new series will be called Gotham.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly, said, "It's Gotham teetering on the edge. This is all of the classic Batman characters."
Already onboard for the project is Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin, Ben McKenzie, Southland as Detective Gordon, Zabryna Guevara Burn Notice as Captain Essen, and Erin Richards Being Human as Barbara Kean. An actor to play Bruce Wayne has not yet been chosen for this new series.
There are many other incarnations of Batman featuring the popular characters from the DC Comics series. Some of the actors who have played Batman in the past include Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, and Val Kilmer. Many remember Tim Burton’s take on the dark world of Gotham from Batman Returns made in 1992.
This year’s Gotham is billed as an origin-story prequel series to the Batman films from Warner Bros. TV. Bruno Heller wrote the pilot script, according to Variety. Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot.
