The upcoming Batman prequel will focus on the origin story of a detective who becomes Commissioner Gordon. The story will also focus on the villains that made Gotham famous, The Hollywood Reporter added.

The Joker and The Penguin have been mentioned to be the main villains in the upcoming show, Entertainment Weekly reported. No word yet on who will be playing these iconic roles. The Joker was made famous by Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

The show will be produced by Danny Cannon, who is known for his work on CSI and Nikita. The script was written by Bruno Heller, who has worked on The Mentalist and Rome.

Kevin Reilly, Fox’s entertainment chairman, spoke about why they decided to tell the origin story of this DC comic book series. “We’re not starting in that world where the villains are in costume. You see markers for it that are delicious you see where the evolution and eccentricity where they become those characters. We don’t start off with capes and costumes," said Reilly.
