The controversial brawl between Trayvon Martin's killer, George Zimmerman, and rapper DMX, has been cancelled.
According to the NY Daily News, promoter Damon Feldman said he has received an excess of outrage from the public, and would rather just cancel the fight to appease the people.
Feldman tweeted from his handle @hollywoodbox11, "This was the wrong person to put in the ring and define celebrity boxing thank you," and added, "I walked away from av [sic] million dollar payday with this fight but to be honest I'd rather be happy and make people happy thank you."
Feldman has expressed sincere apologies and claims he wasn't trying to stir up any trouble or controversy from the public. He feels that canceling the bout is the right thing to do, and according to TMZ, Feldman expressed that there was "more to life than money."
Just days ago, Feldman defended the match after receiving public outcry, saying that the match was strictly for entertainment purposes.
People argued that the match solidified Zimmerman's status as a "celebrity," and that it was a slap in the face to the mourning family of Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, which sparked rage from many people around the world.
DMX was selected to fight Zimmerman out of a pool of 15,000 willing fighters. He was very much looking forward to going toe-to-toe with Zimmerman, quoted as saying that he would, “beat the living f**k out him.”
