Calling all How I Met Your Mother fans! The CBS spinoff How I Met Your Dad has officially casted Greta Gerwig as the protagonist of the new series.
According to E! News, Gerwig will be playing a female-version of Ted (Josh Radnor). Gerwig’s character will be a young, free spirit woman in her late twenties who hasn’t quite embraced the idea of growing up.
The new series will follow the same guidelines of How I Met Your Mother by the way it follows the “mystery-date formatting” of the current show. However, Gerwig’s character will start the television show newly married. The audience will quickly learn that the main character and her new husband are too different for each other. With the help of her friends, How I Met Your Dad will follow her bad dating stories before she finds the father of her kids. Sound familiar?
Gerwig is a “surprising” choice, according to Entertainment Weekly, given that she is known for her indie films (as an actress and filmmaker). Gerwig’s film credits include Arthur, Greenberg, and Frances Ha. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe for best lead actress in a comedy for France Ha.
