Greta Gerwig will play the female lead in a How I Met Your Mother spinoff, which will be titled How I Met Your Dad .

Greta Gerwig,30 is best known for her performance in the indie hit Frances Ha for which she wrote and starred in, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for. Girwig has numerous projects in the works, having just wrapped The Humbling , which also stars Al Pacino, and is in pre-production for Maggie's Plan with Julianne Moore. CBS's iconic How I Met Your Mother is currently running its ninth and final season, and fans have been clamoring for a spinoff. In November, The Celebrity Cafe reported that the rumors were correct and HIMYM would indeed be getting a spinoff, though no actors had yet been signed for the show. Entertainment Weekly now reports that Greta Gerwig has officially landed the female lead and will be playing a character named Sally, who gradually reveals how she met her partner through flashback scenes in the same style as How I Met Your Mother . Sally is described as “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life" who will suffer through breakups and hookups with a "solid circle of support in her friends and family."
How I Met Your Dad will be written by HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, but Gerwig will also help write and produce the show, reports TIME . Aside from co-writing Frances Ha , Girwig has also written, produced, directed, and starred in 2008's indie film Nights and Weekends , giving her experience in working behind the camera.

The pilot of the show will be filmed in Los Angeles, but CBS plans to film the show in New York City if it is picked up for a full season run.
