Grey’s Anatomy is notorious for taking long, agonizing, breaks midway through their seasons. But, Grey’s is back and ABC promises to have brand new episodes for us to look forward to every Thursday night. On their return, we see the aftermath of April’s wedding with Matthew, Callie and Arizona buy a house, and tension arises between Owen and Shane -- this is just the start of the drama we have to catch up on!

The first scene answers our burning question of which bachelor April will choose, after Jackson Avery interrupted a perfectly good wedding and professed his love. Of course, what we see is April running out of her barn destination wedding with Jackson Avery by her side and not her fiancee Matthew. It was pretty evident her love has always been with Avery. Her relationship with Matthew always felt forced. Sadly, Matthew was not the only one ditched in that barn. Jackson completely disregarded his current girlfriend at the time, Stephanie Edwards, and left her emotionally bruised and alone.

Meanwhile, Shane is a disaster and is still suffering from a form of PTSD after the death of Heather Brooks, which he feels fully responsible for. Last we saw him, he was taking surgery into his own hands, and while his ego took over he began hallucinating while operating. As a result, Alex’s dad is left in critical condition. Owen being the Chief of Surgery would be angry regardless, but after he finds out that his ex (and one of the original Grey’s Anatomy stars), Christina Yang, is sleeping with Shane, he grows even more furious. The entire episode Owen is challenging Shane’s competence.

Alex Karev is left dealing with his very unstable and unwelcomed drug addict of a father, Jimmy Evans. Jimmy has never been there and has practically destroyed every relationship that has ever been present in his life. After years of not seeing his father, Alex was forced to be his caregiver at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. He has been on an up and down roller coaster, battling his anger and bitterness and half way trying to mend their father-son connection. Shane finally attempts to apologize to Alex, who is sitting at his ill father’s bedside, but we all know the hot headedness that is Alex Karev. He doesn’t want to hear it. Alex stands in rage, runs and tackles Shane, and proceeds to punching the life out of him. Between Alex and Owen, Shane cannot catch a break. It is unknown whether or not Alex ever received closure with his father, but he is forced to finally say goodbye. Jimmy lets go of his life on Earth and passes on.

Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd and Meredith Grey lie relatively low when comparing their relationship to the surrounding drama. The first part of Season 10 ended with a heated dispute between our two best friends, Meredith and Cristina. But, as the season continues their bond seems to be mending itself -- especially during their surgery together, which Cristina initiates. While Meredith is easing up on Cristina, she has not yet forgiven her husband. They are still in a minor tiff, but Derek has been approached by the White House with some sort of job offer. It’s kind of hard to stay mad at someone who is a rock star neurosurgeon sought after by the President.

Callie and Arizona are finally mending their tired relationship. They have endured physical injuries and an affair, and they have now made the promising decision to move into a house. In order for them to regain any kind of strength in their marriage they have to get out of the musty apartment that holds so many heartbreaking memories.

As a result of the hospital’s relationship drama, which is what the show is primarily based upon, human resources implements a new policy stating that all relationships between colleagues must be private or cease to exist. The board is faced with a vote to either approve the policy or dismiss it. The entire episode we are left wondering what ever happened to Avery and April. It seems at though Matthew, Stephanie, April, and Jackson all ended up alone after the wedding fiasco. But, the end of the episode reveals that once April and Jackson did escape the wedding, they ended up marrying each other in Lake Tahoe. The newlyweds have somehow managed to keep their marriage a secret for three weeks now. Finally, April is married to someone and the love triangle is over – so happy to see them together in the end.

Next week we should look forward to seeing what happens with Alex’s relationship with surgical resident, Jo Wilson. It takes a certain type of woman to understand Karev, and Jo has been a good match for him so far. But, she turns down his unexpected proposal that occurred in the first part of the season. Will they make it last or call it quits?
