Man of Steel 2 started off with one of the strongest launches for a film that has been seen in the past five years. Man of Steel 2 a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman debuted at Comic Con and fans absolutely lost their minds. Internet messages boards exploded and within moments of the announcement being made at the Comic Con stage, fans were already trying to figure out who would playing the big roles in the film.
Fast forward to February of 2014, the film has experienced problem after problem and more fan backlash than any upcoming movie in recent memory. A large majority of comic book fans are honestly outraged over recent casting decisions and a one-year delay on the film has already been announced. All the while, studio executives at Disney, who own the rights to ongoing the Marvel cinematic universe, are relaxing and enjoying printing money with their extending and ever growing universe.
Here is what fans know so far about Man of Steel 2; Batman will be played by Ben Affleck, the role of Wonder Woman went to Gal Gadot, Alfred Pennyworth will be played by Jeremy Irons and Lex Luthor will played by Jesse Esienberg.
These casting decisions have thrown fans through a loop. It seems as though Warner Brothers (WB) are hoping to strike gold again like when Health Ledger was casted as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Ledger did prove that any actor could transformer into a role but that performance seems like it will never be topped. Lightning does not strike twice.
Lex Luthor is one of the most iconic villains in comic book history and fans doubt that Esienberg would be able to pull off this role. Esienberg is clearly a great actor, his work in The Social Network proved this, but only time will tell if he can become the role of Luther all while fighting both Batman and Superman.
Esienberg is a much better casting choice than Gal Gadot but that debate has been entered into enough already.
The clock is ticking for WB and D.C., Marvel has already moved onto their second phase of production on their universe and D.C. fans are hoping that WB can focus enough to accomplish one film more film in their first stage.
The delay and the doubt surrounding casting is causing many problems for WB, there is only one way to get Man of Steel 2 back on track. That is to release a trailer as soon as possible. Fans have to believe that WB has a vision about this universe and that these casting choices are not random, fans want to see what this new universe will be like and are rapidly losing faith.
The moment fans saw Heath Ledger as the Joker in the trailer for the Dark Knight resulted in fans falling silent about the doubt around Ledger and they ended up praised Christopher Nolan for his casting choice. Man of Steel 2 needs a new image surrounding the project instead of this constant doubt and confusion. A trailer would provide that clarity that fans are hoping for and craving.
Prove us wrong WB, prove that you are the studio D.C. fans deserve and that these casting choices are the one this cinematic universe needs right now.
