On the Road, an online show about a Chinese couple’s trips to the corners of the world, is moving to television.
According to the Associated Press, Victor Koo, CEO of Youku Tudou Inc. said, “We're increasingly working with television stations and movie companies to bring these Web-based contents to the home screen as well as to the big screen."
On the Road features lead actors going to Somalia and Chernobyl. In the second season, they are planning to go to Madagascar and Alaska. Internet sites produce shows like On the Road. The new shows can also be watched on mobile phones and laptop computers. The first season of On the Road received more than 100 million hits on Youku, where it began uploading. Youku said it would repackage the original 15-minute videos into five half-hour episodes that would debut on CCTV.
Chinese Television is also expanding through Hunan TV. Hunan TV is a satellite station that became a co-producer of the second season of Surprise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hunan TV has entered into a number of collaborative partnerships to reach additional viewers, including a deal with Britain’s ITV studios.
