After shocking the literary world last year by releasing a new novel under a pseudonym, J. K. Rowling is set to do it again this year, admittedly without the shroud of anonymity this time.
The Gaurdian reports that Rowling will release her new novel The Silkworm again under the Galbraith name. It will be Rowling’s third overall novel aimed for adult audiences.
A sequel to last year’s The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm will again follow private investigator Cormoran Strike, as he attempts to solve the case of a murdered novelist with the help of his assistant Robin Ellacot.
The news of Rowling’s pseudonym broke after Calling had been released for a couple of months, and promptly shot to the top of the bestsellers chart upon the revelation.
Writing on her Robert Galbraith website, Rowling states that “I’ve always loved reading detective fiction. Most of the Harry Potters are whodunits at heart, but I wanted to try the real thing for a long time. As for the pseudonym, I was yearning to go back to the beginning of a writing career in this new genre, to work without hype or expectation and to receive totally unvarnished feedback. It was a fantastic experience, and I only wish it could have gone on a little longer.”
The Silkworm, published by Little, Brown, will be released June 19 in the U.K. and June 24 in the U.S.
