The Philadelphia Eagles and left tackle Jason Peters signed a five-year contract on Wednesday. The deal is worth $51.3 million.
Peters, 32, had one year left on his contract. The new deal gives Peters four more years and adds $41.3 million in salary, which includes $19.55 million guaranteed, according to ESPN. Peters will be with the Eagles through 2018. He will likely play for the Eagles for the rest of his career.
In 2012 Peter was out for the entire season due to Achilles injuries. He returned last year to anchor the Eagles offense. The Eagles led the NFL in rushing last year, with LeSean McCoy running for 1,607 yards, which is a franchise best. Peters is a six-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro, the Associated Press notes.
"There aren't many people cut from the same cloth as Jason Peters," Eagles coach Chip Kelly said in a statement. "To be able to bounce back from two Achilles injuries and return to an All-Pro level speaks not only to his incredible athleticism but proves just how hard he works at his game. Having him at left tackle provides a lot of comfort to our quarterback and to our entire offense. He's a guy that many players look up to in our locker room."
Peters entered the NFL as an undrafted tight end in 2004. He played the first five years of his career for Buffalo. He was traded to the Eagles in 2009.
