Former baseball player and manager Jim Fregosi had a stroke on the Major League Baseball alumni cruise, which went through the Cayman Islands.
According to MLB, Fregosi was rushed to a hospital and had his condition stabilized. After his hospital trip, he was flown back to the mainland in Miami.
Fregosi has worked as a special assistant to the general manager for the Atlanta Braves for the last 13 years.
He also served as manager for the California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays, where he served his last year as a manager in 2000. Fregosi led the Angels to their first American League West title and postseason appearance in franchise history in 1979. He also led the Phillies to a National League pennant in 1993.
As a player, Fregosi made six All-Star appearances with the Angels, according to The Associated Press.
They came in 1964 and from 1966-70. He also played for the New York Mets and Texas Rangers before finishing his career in 1978 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
