Jimmy Fallon ended his time on Late Night with his usual brand of humor mixed with musical performances that he has become known for over the past five years at 12:35 a.m. He had some help from The Muppets and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg to say goodbye before he starts on The Tonight Show.
During his monologue, Fallon joked that he’ll miss being on TV at 12:35 a.m., notes USA Today. He noted that this was his 969th episode, “or as my dad put it, 'Couldn't make it to 1,000, huh? Quitter.'” Then, Fallon summed up his monologue jokes in one sentence: “"Joe Biden needed Obamacare after Anthony Weiner texted Justin Bieber a picture of Chris Christie dating a Kardashian on the Jersey Shore ... with Rob Ford.”
Of course, Fallon didn’t stay away from some of the hot topics of the day, including the Winter Olympics. The Sochi games kicked off Thursday, with the opening ceremony on Friday. “There was a massive fireworks display—and that was just when someone tried to plug in a hairdryer at the hotel,” Fallon joked, notes E! News. He added in a Russian accent, “Is not made for normal plug. It is eight-prong plug we use to electrocute and torture people.”
Zap2It reports that he also got some help from famous friends, who had advice for his upcoming Tonight Show debut. “You get a lot more ratings if you wore less clothes,” Miley Cyrus said in her message, while Sarah Silverman’s advice was “...Wipe front to back. You do not want to learn that the hard way.”
Samberg was Fallon’s last guest and the show ended with Fallon performing The Band’s “The Weight” with The Muppets. Fallon played drums alongside Animal and at the end of the song, he left, walked down a corridor and in through a door marked The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
The Tonight Show returns with Fallon on Feb. 17.
