Comedian Joel McHale has been picked to host this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. McHale is best known as the star of NBC’s cult comedy Community and the host of E!’s pop culture satire show The Soup.

The news was announced by Steve Thomma, the president of the White House Correspondents Association, which hosts the annual event.

“We’re thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial,” Thomma said. “He’s sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing.”

The event is known for its humor, as politicians rub shoulders with the journalists that report on their actions and celebrities frequently attend. It is almost always hosted by a comedian with television experience, as last year’s was Conan O’Brien. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the year before.

The WHCA uses the event to raise funds for scholarships and present journalism awards, notes Politico.

McHale also confirmed the news in his own tweet, taking a jab at the government’s health care website.
