The U.S. did not get an Olympic medal in the men’s halfpipe event, however the Americans received two in women’s snowboarding competition.
The Associated Press has reported that Kaitlyn Farrington won the gold medal in the women's halfpipe final on Wednesday, while her teammate and 2002 gold medalist Kelly Clark took the bronze. Australia’s gold medalist four years ago, Torah Bright, was awarded the silver.
USA Today noted that Farrington won with a score of 91.75, which just beat out Bright’s 91.50. Clark scored a 90.75 to come in third.
The 24-year-old Farrington was born in Idaho and now lives in Salt Lake City. She began skiing when she was 3-years-old. This was the first Olympic Games she has competed in, but she already knows how she is going to celebrate.
"I'm going to dance my face off," she said.
The women’s medals are a bright spot that may take some of the sting out of what transpired a day ago in the men’s halfpipe competition. Not only did American Shaun White lose out on winning his third gold medal in the sport, but he finished in fourth place and was kept off the podium.
