New York Knicks star, Carmelo Anthony, says that he is willing to accept a smaller salary in order to improve the team’s roster. Anthony will be a free agent this summer, but is more concerned with winning a championship than winning a pay increase.
According to washingtonpost the Knicks can pay Anthony $30 million more than any other team but, Anthony does not intend on forcing the Knicks to do that. Instead, he would like some say in future acquisitions as he is focused on building a championship team.
According to nydailynews Anthony said, “…As far as the money goes, it’s not my concern. My concern is to be able to compete on a high level, a championship level, coming in this last stretch of my career. I want to compete at that level.”
Anthony, 29, has been in the league since 2003 when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets. Anthony led the Nuggets to the playoffs every year from 2004-2010 and was traded to New York during the 2011 season.
