Leah Remini is speaking out about her decision to leave the controversial Church of Scientology and she revealed she left mainly because of her daughter.

In a revealing new interview with BuzzFeed, the former King of Queens star said there were “dozens” of reasons she left.

Remini explained how she got involved with the church, which counts Tom Cruise and Kirstie Alley among its members. She said her step-father moved the family to Florida when she was young and she spent her days working with “barely no schooling” as a child.

Later in life, Remini said she recognized the church as “controlling,” specially after she announced she was leaving it in July 2013.

She said of her decision, “In my house, it’s family first — but I was spending most of my time at the church. So, I was saying 'family first,' but I wasn't showing that. I didn't like the message that sent my daughter." She continued that she was forced to rethink her involvement because her 9-year-old daughter Sofia “was getting to the age where the acclimation into the Church would have to start.”

Now having lost friends like Kirstie Alley, Remini doesn’t regret leaving. She now appears on TV Land’s The Exes and has much more time for family.
