Liam Neeson was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Wednesday night to promote his latest thriller, Non-Stop, but the interview was dominated by a rather surprising topic: horse-drawn carriages. Neeson said that he’s really “pissed” off at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has proposed banning all horse-drawn carriages in the city.
“I am a little bit pissed off at our elected new mayor,” Neeson told Stewart, who didn’t even ask him about the topic, notes Politicker. “He wants to close this horse and carriage industry in New York.”
Neeson, who now lives in New York, then referenced a recent poll that said 61 percent of New Yorkers do not support the ban, notes The Huffington Post.
The Taken actor has frequently spoken in support of the horse-drawn carriages, even though they have been attacked by animal rights activists. He even wrote a letter to Irish Central, slamming de Blasio for not meeting with horse-drawn carriage industry officials or even visiting stables, although de Blasio has recently said he would visit a stable. De Blasio did receive donations from opponents and animal rights activists during his successful campaign.
Stewart appeared to be in support of a ban, but Neeson said that the people who drive these carriages treat the animals like children. Nevertheless, the interview almost turned into a fist-fight before they cut to a commercial.
You can see Neeson put up a different kind of fight in Non-Stop, which opens tomorrow.
