The Sochi Winter Olympics have just begun and already the US’s youngest Olympian, Maggie Voisin, is out of the games due to an ankle injury. While training at Rose Khutor Extreme Park on Friday, the freestyle skier hurt her right ankle on the slopestyle course and will not be able to compete come Tuesday in her event according to The Associated Press . After turning 15-year-old in December of 2013, Voisin will not be replaced for the event.
Although originally through to be a metal contender in the 2018 Winter Olympics, Voisin was a discretionary pick and surprise to the team. Well deserving of the nod, Voisin made her first podium on her 15th birthday reported USA Today . At the X Games last month, Voisin took silver after landing, a switch 180, an impressive move that has only been completed by one other freeskier.
Voisin is not the first Olympian to already be injured in the games. Early this week, famous snowboarder, Shawn White announced he would not be competing in the snowboard slopestyle competition after jamming his wrist. White will be saving his energy to defend his two-time gold metal in the halfpipe.
