Played by Scarlett Johansson in the Iron Man and Avengers movies, the Marvel character Black Widow may be the next in line to receive a stand-alone film.
Variety reported Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has long been high on the character even before her role was expanded for April’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Noting “The Avengers comes first,” on the list of priorities, Feige stated he has already been talking to Johansson about the idea of a stand-alone, and even throwing out some conceptual ideas as well.
According to Comic Book Movie, Captain America star Chris Evans said the extended story arc for Black Widow in the upcoming Captain America film shows her struggle with being a spy, and her coming to terms with her history. Feige also stated Black Widow’s character would be explored more in depth for The Avengers: Age of Ultron as well.
There are no reports yet on actual development for the Black Widow film, and whether or not it would intersect into other upcoming spin-offs Ant-Man and Dr. Strange, as well as The Avengers franchise.
