Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is known for his love of drugs and outspokenness, as well as an admiration for Bob Marley. So what better way to honor the legendary musician than to declare today, February 6, ‘Bob Marley Day’?

Marley was born on February 6, 1945. He would have turned 69 today.

According to Latimes.com, Ford wrote in his proclamation, “Each year on February 6, we honor the legacy of Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley, an influential musician, advocate for human rights and international ambassador of peace.”

This may come as no surprise for people who saw a video posted back in December, of Ford dancing to “One Love” during a council session, according to Usatoday.com.

Ford also wrote that Bob “used music to tear down the walls of apartheid and promoted African unity, culture and world peace both at home and internationally, with songs like One Love and Africa Unite.”

Ford has been asked to step down as mayor, according to Usatoday.com, after a video of him smoking crack went viral. He apologized and is moving on from the situation, but will not be stepping down
.
The legacy of Bob Marley will continue to live on in the city of Toronto.
