Michael Sam spoke Saturday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. This was his first press conference as an openly gay NFL draft prospect.

Sam’s announcement revealing his sexual orientation two weeks ago was groundbreaking. It is the first time there would be an openly gay player in the NFL. It gained massive media attention and sparked many controversial conversations.

Sam started the press conference with a smile while wearing a rainbow saying "Stand with Sam” that was given to him by a female fan. The former Missouri defensive end appeared confident and ready to answer any question that came his way.

According to usatoday when asked about the Miami bullying scandal Sam said, "I'm not afraid of going into that environment. I know how to handle myself. I know how to communicate with my teammates."

According to abcnews Sam said, "And I just wish you guys would see me as Michael Sam, the football player, instead of Michael Sam, the gay football player.”
