The Minnesota Vikings elected to retain Mike Priefer, their special teams coach. Priefer has been caught in the middle of homophobia accusations by outspoken punter Chris Kluwe, who was cut by the Vikings.
New Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer will hold over seven staff members, including Priefer, from last year's Vikings team, who fired Leslie Frazier after the 2013 season.
Priefer has helped produce two Pro Bowl special teams players for the Vikings in kicker Blair Walsh and kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson.
Since Kluwe was cut by the Vikings after the 2012 season, he has advocated for marriage equality, and he has since accused Priefer of making homophobic remarks during the 2012 season in a Deadspin article, according to USAToday.
According to ESPN, the Vikings will investigate Kluwe's allegations. Kluwe's attorney Clayton Halunen said it would be irresponsible for the Vikings to bring Priefer back before the investigation is finished.
The Vikings are expected to have an easier job of investigating Priefer though since he will return to the team. The investigation is expected to end about a month from now.
